Trahi par celle qu’il aime, le narrateur s’envole pour l’Espagne et retrace un voyage qu’ils auraient dû faire ensemble trois ans auparavant. Pour tenter de se libérer du poids de l’absence, se réconcilier avec lui-même, il entame un périple ibérique à haut risque, mais combien libérateur et salvateur. Il entraîne le lecteur à travers son égarement dans toute la péninsule durant la courte période de répit après le confinement sanitaire suite à la pandémie mondiale de Covid-19. Il découvre une Espagne particulière, privée de ses touristes et se heurte à la détresse humaine. À partir de ce schéma, le narrateur joue avec le temps en mêlant passé douloureux de la rupture à celui du confinement où il prend conscience que sa perte n’égale en rien celle qui touche une humanité brisée et déroutée par l’ampleur d’une crise sans précédent.
