This is a book of poetry and photography by the author Gianina Sipitca. It is a collection of materials written during the period 2013-2015. The photographs are more or less from the same period, taken always by the author, with a Nikon camera or with the smart phone. While on vacation or during weekend outings, Gianina likes to take simple photographs that show the details of what she observes and enjoys, just as any other person would do. A professional camera never interested her, since it is not what people generally use. She likes to see if she could spur the audience’s interest in what captures her imagination for the moment and do it in a simple way, with her inexpensive ’toy’. She calls it a toy, not a tool, since although now dedicated full time to writing and publishing, she still enjoys it as when only a hobby several years ago.

  • Polishing the Silver
    Jennifer Chrystie
‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

  • One Kiss
    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

  • The Truth about A

In his interpretation of Antigone, Seamus Heaney says, ‘Nobody can be sure they are always right.’ Maureen O’Shaughnessy’s The Truth about A further attends to this idea through various readings of the myth as portrayed by Sophocles, Brecht, Ted Hughes, Anne Carson and, most particularly, Euripides. Set in contemporary Sydney, among a fictional underworld family, The Truth abou...

I started writing poetry in my early forties. When I was younger I was much shier in my writings, and never would have imagined I would someday write my own poems. I used to read a lot of poetry, mostly the Romanian classics like Mihai Eminescu, George Cosbuc, Topirceanu, Alexandri, the French poets Baudelaire, La Fontaine, or the likes of Pablo Neruda whom I later discovered. ...
