A incidência do cancro anal tem aumentado drasticamente nas últimas décadas, atraindo cada vez mais a atenção de clínicos e investigadores. Dominado pelo carcinoma de células escamosas, que representa 90% dos casos, este cancro induzido por vírus está intimamente ligado à infeção persistente com tipos oncogénicos de papilomavírus humano (HPV). Precedido por lesões pré-cancerosas, requer um tratamento precoce para limitar a sua progressão.O objetivo do nosso trabalho foi descrever as caraterísticas epidemiológicas, fisiopatológicas e clínicas das lesões pré-cancerosas do ânus, destacando simultaneamente as estratégias actuais de rastreio, tratamento e prevenção, de acordo com as recomendações científicas mais recentes.
