Le Rosaire rassemble désormais quatre couronnes de roses depuis que le Saint Pape Jean Paul II a introduit, en 2002, les mystères lumineux dans le traditionnel Rosaire qui rappelait le livre de 150 psaumes, déjà constitué au 16ème siècle sous le pape Pie V. Ce dernier a officialisé la liste de 15 mystères en 1572. Ainsi les mystères de l’Evangile à contempler sont passés de quinze à vingt. D’aucuns se sont étonnés de l’introduction des mystères lumineux dans le Rosaire. Mais le Pape Jean Paul II était bien inspiré. De tous les papes qui ont prié le Rosaire, personne n’y avait songé avant lui. Et pourtant, la déficience était manifeste : l’on passait des mystères de l’enfance de la vie de Jésus à ceux de sa passion, avant de méditer ceux de la résurrection.
