’Thomas Seltzer (1875-1943) était un éditeur, traducteur et écrivain américain réputé pour ses contributions à la littérature russe en anglais. Né aux États-Unis de parents juifs russes, Seltzer a développé une forte affinité pour la culture et la littérature russes. Il est surtout connu pour avoir compilé et édité The Best Russian Short Stories (Les meilleures nouvelles russes), publié en 1916, qui a fait découvrir au public anglophone le génie d’écrivains russes tels qu’Anton Tchekhov et Fiodor Dostoïevski. Les traductions de Seltzer étaient saluées pour leur précision et leur sens littéraire, contribuant ainsi à jeter des ponts entre les cultures. Tout au long de sa carrière, il s’est fait le champion des échanges littéraires et a œuvré à la promotion de l’art narratif russe.
