Les Fâcheux is a three-act comédie-ballet written by Molière. It was first performed on 17 August 1661, at Vaux-le-Vicomte. Molière created this play on the request of Fouquet, who asked him to prepare a play to entertain Louis XIV, during a great festival. The play centers around the character of Éraste, who is trying to reach his beloved Orphise, but is constantly interrupted by a series of unwanted and annoying people (the 'fâcheux').This edition, in French, makes Molière’s work accessible to modern readers and students of French literature.
