Les carnets de Turner est le premier roman de William L. Pierce, militant décédé en 2002. Ses romans ne furent qu’une petite part de son activité  intense pendant des décennies, notamment à la tête de son organisation la National Alliance. William L. Pierce fonde en 1974 son propre parti, dont le programme est la ségrégation raciale et la lutte pour le salut de la Race Blanche. Il entretient des relations avec le Parti Nazi Américain. Sous le pseudonyme d’Andrew McDonald, William L. Pierce est connu pour avoir écrit Les Carnets de Turner (The Turner Diaries), roman d’anticipation où est décrit un coup d’État mené aux États-Unis par des suprémacistes blancs. Les protagonistes du livre s’en prennent au gouvernement, mais aussi aux noirs et aux juifs, ces derniers étant décrits comme contrôlant l’État américain. William L. Pierce a également contribué à nombre d’émissions radio destinées à promouvoir sa politique ainsi qu’à la diffusion de musique.
