Dr. Edén Lenin Fisher Chavarría sends us his latest book entitled León: 500 years of foundation and history, dedicated to the Very Noble and Loyal City of Santiago de los Caballeros de León, Nicaragua, a book that he delivers to our city with an offering of four free verses as a dedication:Five centuries of struggle.Five hundred years of heroism.Five centuries of rebellion.Half a millennium of resistance.This type of tribute is not only a simple tribute; it demonstrates an absolute respect for the city and its inhabitants, a devotion that the city of León well deserves, since it is a city that has known how to rise again and again from apocalyptic earthquakes, for which it has been called the Pompeii of America; from experiencing onslaughts of hurricanes and severe droughts; from the destruction and death caused by bloody wars of pirates, filibusters and retrograde or interventionist armies; from terribly devastating plagues and diseases; and yet, it is a population capable of loving and gestate in its bosom, bringing to power the only two revolutions that have occurred in the country: The Liberal Revolution of 1893 and the Sandinista Popular Revolution of 1979.
