Amidst silent disputes - in particular between the conservative Peter Cole and the chamberlain Gianbattista Pozzo - Ravasi was elected Leo XIV and found in the encyclical Renovatio Ecclesiae, written together with the late Gregory XVII, the foundation for a profound reform without breaking with tradition. By convening the Council of Venice, he began a pontificate marked by dialogue, renewal and a bold vision for the future of the Church.
