Durante la mayor parte del siglo pasado, la investigación sobre la legitimidad ha aparecido de forma lenta y fragmentada. Aunque desde 1995, la literatura sobre la legitimidad ha crecido rápidamente y en una variedad de direcciones, gran parte de esta nueva literatura ha sido muy teórica, estudiándose como un concepto teórico, en lugar de ser examinado de forma empírica. De manera que aún existen vacíos para algunas cuestiones, como por ejemplo: ¿qué dimensión de legitimidad ejerce una fuerza mayor sobre la legitimidad organizativa?; ¿las organizaciones con mayor legitimidad obtienen mejores resultados?, ¿disponen de un mejor acceso a los recursos necesarios para sobrevivir?, ¿qué dimensiones de legitimidad conducen a la obtención de mejores resultados organizativos. En este libro pretendemos dar respuesta a las cuestiones planteadas analizando un proceso institucional como sujeto de legitimación: el Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior (EEES).
