Bei der Raffination macht das Abwasser aus der Entsalzung 10 bis 30 % des Abwassers aus und enthält 40 bis 70 % der Schadstoffe. Die Einleitung dieser behandelten Abwässer in die aufnehmenden Gewässer wird gemäß den Normen kontrolliert. Angesichts der Gesundheits- und Umweltrisiken muss jedoch eine mehrstufige und multikriterielle Analyse durchgeführt werden. Das Ziel dieser Studie ist es, die Umweltverträglichkeit der Abwasserbehandlung unter Einbeziehung des Entsalzungsprozesses zu bewerten. Zu diesem Zweck wurde die Methode der Lebenszyklusanalyse (LCA) mit den Bewertungsmethoden Recipe, CML-IA, TRACI und USETOX mittels der Software GaBi angewendet. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Stromerzeugung aus fossilen Brennstoffen mit 99 % den größten Beitrag zu den Umweltauswirkungen leistet. Was die Emissionen (CO2, CO, NOx, SOx, VOC) betrifft, so erhöhen sie das Erwärmungspotenzial durch den Treibhauseffekt, das Versauerungspotenzial durch sauren Regen und das fotochemische Oxidationspotenzial in Bezug auf Smog. Die Ergebnisse im Zusammenhang mit der Human- und Ökosystemtoxizität lassen jedoch aufgrund von Unsicherheiten keine Schlussfolgerungen zu.
