La République kirghize est un État issu de l’effondrement de l’URSS et fait partie de la région appelée Asie centrale. L’Asie centrale moderne, bien que politiquement instable et économiquement sous-développée, attire de plus en plus l’attention des acteurs extérieurs. Cela s’explique par le fait que l’Asie centrale jouit non seulement d’une position géopolitique et géostratégique favorable, mais aussi d’une grande quantité de ressources naturelles ; de nombreuses routes de transit d’hydrocarbures traversent l’Asie centrale. La position géographique de la République kirghize, la loyauté de sa politique étrangère et la faiblesse de son économie ont fait de cet État l’otage des intérêts stratégiques des puissances mondiales. Le processus politique de la république est depuis longtemps influencé par des acteurs tiers, souvent au détriment de ses propres intérêts nationaux. Trouver des moyens de résister à l’influence extérieure est une tâche primordiale pour les dirigeants du Kirghizistan moderne.
