Cette étude porte sur la compréhension clinique actuelle du trouble déficitaire de l’attention/hyperactivité (TDAH) chez les enfants et les adolescents d’origine espagnole et sur la façon dont les éléments psychopharmacologiques et neurologiques font partie des efforts multidisciplinaires pour diagnostiquer et traiter ce trouble du développement neurologique. Les divergences actuelles entre les professionnels cliniques concernant l’utilisation de psychostimulants pour traiter ces populations façonnent le diagnostic et le traitement de ce trouble dans le monde entier. Les erreurs de diagnostic clinique et les surdoses pharmacologiques sont évaluées à partir d’analyses sélectives de données collectées auprès des communautés universitaires et professionnelles au cours des dix dernières années de recherche scientifique. Cette étude examine et passe en revue de manière critique la littérature existante sur le TDAH, basée sur la pratique et sur des données empiriques, du point de vue de la psychologie clinique, afin de déterminer (a) ce que l’on sait actuellement sur le diagnostic et le traitement du TDAH chez les enfants et les adolescents, (b) si les connaissances cliniques actuelles sur le TDAH tiennent compte des dernières avancées neurologiques et psychopharmacologiques, et (c) si les interventions cliniques sur le TDAH sont efficaces, sûres et si elles améliorent le bien-être des clients.
