Le peuple Kuwong qualifié d’irréductible est très peu connu des ethnologues et des anthropologues. Il fait partie des peuples qui sont assez fermés à toute croyance exogène, surtout à l’islam dans un pays à prédominance musulmane comme le Tchad. Quelques études lapidaires sur ce peuple sont celles des linguistes. Celles sur sa réceptivité ou sa résistance aux croyances monothéistes sont presque inexistantes sinon sous forme d’articles. Le problème débattu dans le livre est celui d’appropriation de la foi musulmane et de l’adhésion des Kuwong à cette foi sous l’hégémonie baguirmienne. Les Baguirmiens ont étendu leur influence dès la première moitié du 19è siècle sur la partie méridionale du Tchad dont fait partie le peuple Kuwong. Le développement et l’épanouissement intégral de ce peuple sont occultés par des préjugés et des stéréotypes culturels, tribaux et ethniques. Le livre analyse les raisons de la résistance en partant de l’idée que les pesanteurs culturelles et traditionnelles, le mépris, la discrimination et la stigmatisation seraient les causes de cette résistance des Kuwong aux différentes étapes de leur baguirmisation.
