Parmi les maux qui affectent notre civilisation moderne figure le malaise. Bien que ce phénomène touche la société dans son ensemble, il est également présent dans les établissements d’enseignement supérieur d’autres continents, notamment à l’Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny (Cocody - Abidjan). Cette recherche vise donc à expliquer ce phénomène chez les enseignants-chercheurs de cette université, à partir de la variable équilibre entre vie professionnelle et vie personnelle . À cet effet, un questionnaire a été administré à 334 enseignants-chercheurs, constituant un échantillon établi selon la technique d’échantillonnage sur site. Les participants ont été répartis en deux groupes équivalents en fonction de leur effectif, de leur sexe, de leur âge, de leur ancienneté professionnelle, de leurs responsabilités familiales, de leur appartenance sociopolitique et de leur affiliation syndicale. Les informations recueillies ont été traitées à l’aide du test statistique t de Student. Cette analyse a permis de vérifier les hypothèses de travail et d’obtenir des résultats constructifs. D’une part, l’insatisfaction au travail est plus intense chez les enseignants-chercheurs qui considèrent que leur équilibre entre vie professionnelle et vie personnelle est déséquilibré que chez ceux qui estiment cet équilibre satisfaisant. La théorie de la dissonance cognitive de Vaidis et Halimi-Falkowicz (2007) est mobilisée pour soutenir l’interprétation de ces résultats.
