Dr. Logan H. Westbrooks revisits his childhood in Memphis, Tennessee when he lived in a community known as Lauderdale Sub. Westbrooks recounts the family values that fortified him and many others to become high achievers and great contributors to society. In addition to the Westbrooks family, the Bishop, Bryant, Davenport, Hawkins, Hodges, Moore, Neely, Patterson, Porter, Smith, Stiles and Weaver families are also featured. Additionally, the book pays homage to neighborhood churches such as Morning View, Mount Sinai and Carnegie COGIC. A drive through the area today would hardly hint of the history makers who grew up in the once thriving Lauderdale Sub. The likes of which include the late Bishop G. E. Patterson, BBQ mogul James Neely and Don Bryant, who co-wrote 'I Can’t Stand the Rain' with his wife, hit recording artist Ann Peebles. Told through the oral traditions, here is a blueprint for success that is evidenced by an ever-fruitful legacy in the ministry, business, education, government, medicine, aviation, entertainment and beyond.     This book is dedicated to the families that resided in the Lauderdale Sub from the 1940’s and to those who remain as recently as 2023. This neighborhood holds a rich history all its own. It was a thriving and vibrant neighborhood with children playing and interacting with each other. Mindful adults, always on the ready to spot and correct misbehavior. It was lively, friendly and very closely knit. Everybody knew each other and all were on speaking terms. Dr. Logan H. Westbrooks helped shape Black music in every form. He redefined marketing Black music and African American artists and became the first African American music executive to have such a distinguished career at major record labels.Dr. Westbrooks was ordained in 1996 by the Church of God In Christ and received his master’s in biblical counseling from Eternal Word Graduate School. His dedication to the Church of God In Christ’s mission to broaden and strengthen the territory of their churches in Monrovia and Azusa, California, resulted in increased numbers coming to Christ and additional services to those in need. Currently he serves as Executive Secretary of the Metropolitan Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Southern California and Administrative Assistant to the Jurisdictional Bishop. Westbrooks received the 2015 Faith Award from Faith Love & Hope Unlimited, The Music Pioneer Award from United Music Heritage, Inc., and The Vanguard Award from the Living Legends Foundation. Westbrooks’ books include: The Anatomy of the Music Industry: How the Game Was & How the Game Has Changed, The Harvard Report: Censored and the forthcoming Lauderdale Sub published by Ascent Books.
