''Lancelot'' is a narrative poem by American poet Edwin Arlington Robinson. The poem tells the story of the legendary knight Lancelot, who is known for his bravery, loyalty, and love for Queen Guinevere. The poem is divided into six parts, each of which explores different aspects of Lancelot’s character and his relationships with the other characters in the Arthurian legend. In the first part, we are introduced to Lancelot as a young squire who is taken in by King Arthur and trained to become a knight. The second part focuses on Lancelot’s love for Guinevere and his struggles to keep his feelings hidden. The third part explores Lancelot’s relationship with Arthur and his loyalty to the king, despite his love for Guinevere. In the fourth part, Lancelot is sent on a mission to rescue Guinevere from her captors, and he proves his bravery and skill as a knight. The fifth part deals with the aftermath of Lancelot and Guinevere’s affair, which leads to the downfall of the Round Table and the deaths of many of Arthur’s knights. Finally, in the sixth part, Lancelot reflects on his life and his mistakes, and he asks for forgiveness from God. The poem is written in a formal, traditional style, with rhyming couplets and a strict meter. It explores themes of love, loyalty, honor, and redemption, and it offers a unique perspective on the Arthurian legend. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...
