Publié en 1936 chez Flammarion, L’Allemagne nouvelle est un ouvrage dans lequel le germaniste français Henri Lichtenberger (1864-1941) cherche à analyser les profondes transformations de l’Allemagne depuis la Première Guerre mondiale, et surtout l’arrivée au pouvoir d’Adolf Hitler en 1933.Lichtenberger s’intéresse à plusieurs aspects de cette nouvelle Allemagne : son évolution politique, économique et sociale, le fonctionnement du régime nazi et la transformation de la société allemande. Son approche est toutefois particulière : il interprète le régime hitlérien comme l’aboutissement de certaines évolutions antérieures de l’Allemagne, notamment celles de l’Empire allemand et de l’après-guerre.L’intérêt historique du livre réside donc autant dans ce qu’il nous apprend sur l’Allemagne des années 1930 que dans le regard porté sur le national-socialisme par un intellectuel français contemporain. Aujourd’hui, son analyse passe pour trop compréhensive, voire complaisante, envers le régime hitlérien, ce qui en fait aujourd’hui un document intéressant pour étudier les perceptions françaises du IIIᵉ Reich avant la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
