La traduction littéraire connaît aujourd’hui de profondes mutations sous l’effet du développement des technologies numériques et de l’essor de la traduction automatique neuronale. Longtemps envisagée, selon les approches linguistiques, comme un simple transfert d’un texte d’une langue à une autre, puis redéfinie par la théorie interprétative comme un acte de médiation du sens entre deux cultures, la traduction demeure une activité complexe qui requiert à la fois compétence linguistique, sensibilité culturelle et créativité. Dans ce contexte, les logiciels de traduction assistée et les systèmes de traduction automatique, tels que Google Translate et DeepL, se sont imposés comme des outils incontournables dans la pratique traduisante. Toutefois, leur utilisation dans le domaine littéraire soulève d’importantes interrogations relatives à la restitution du style, des expressions idiomatiques et des valeurs esthétiques des œuvres. Parallèlement, la critique de la traduction occupe une place essentielle dans l’évaluation des productions traduites. Loin de se limiter au repérage des erreurs, elle vise une appréciation globale des choix du traducteur à travers des critères linguistiques, stylistiques, culturels et esthétiques, conformément aux réflexions de théoriciens tels qu’Antoine Berman. En s’appuyant sur la stylistique comparée de Vinay et Darbelnet ainsi que sur la théorie interprétative de Seleskovitch et Lederer, cette étude met en évidence les possibilités et les limites des technologies de traduction appliquées aux textes littéraires. Les analyses comparatives montrent que DeepL offre généralement une meilleure fluidité syntaxique et une interprétation plus fidèle que Google Translate, sans pour autant parvenir à reproduire pleinement la richesse stylistique et culturelle propre aux œuvres littéraires. Ces résultats confirment que, malgré les progrès remarquables de l’intelligence artificielle, la traduction littéraire demeure un exercice où l’intervention humaine reste indispensable.
