La tierra de los abetos puntiagudos (1896) es la obra narrativa más conocida de la autora norteamericana Sarah Orne Jewett (1849-1909). Relata las vivencias de una escritora que pasa el verano en un tranquilo pueblo pesquero en la costa del estado de Maine. En una prosa tan sencilla como impactante, la narradora-protagonista nos cuenta como, paulatinamente, se ve inmersa en la curiosa gama de personajes que conforman la comunidad de Dunnet Landing y, a la vez, aprende a ver con ojos renovados la belleza del paisaje de Nueva Inglaterra. Estructurada en una serie de episodios encadenados, esta novela puede parecer a primera vista un ejemplo típico de la escritura costumbrista norteamericana, Sin embargo, mezcla los rasgos del realismo decimonónico y una base subyacente de la experiencia visionaria del transcendentalismo.
