Gadir, año 68 a.C. El joven Lucio sobrevive entre el olor a salitre y las vísceras de pescado de una factoría de garum. Años después, el puerto del Emporium es testigo de su ascenso. Convertido en un próspero comerciante del oro líquido de Hispania y entregado a un amor que parece imposible, Lucio cree haber vencido al destino. Sin embargo, cuando el eco de las trompetas de Julio César vuelve a resonar llamando a las armas en las Galias, Lucio deberá tomar una decisión: proteger su nueva vida o seguir al hombre que le enseñó a soñar con la grandeza. ¿Podrá un hombre forjado en la sal y la sangre de la guerra reclamar el futuro que le prometieron, o descubrirá que el tiempo en Roma corre más rápido que el galope de las legiones?
