La República de los Atenienses es una suerte de panfleto de carácter político único en su carácter si, como ha sido casi universalmente aceptado, corresponde a un escrito, el primero en lengua ática, de un así llamado Viejo Oligarca (Pseudo-Jenofonte) de alrededor de los años 420 a. C. en la Atenas imperial. Asuntos relacionados con la vida ciudadana de la época, el trato de los esclavos, la satisfacción general del pueblo con los beneficios que le reportan el imperio y su flota, el desapego de los oligarcas, las complicaciones del sistema judicial que en la práctica favorece al demos, son todos referidos en forma apasionada y si se quiere convincente, y dejan la impresión de no dar en su conjunto una perspectiva desfavorable acerca de la politeia que rige en la ciudad, y que supuestamente el autor se propone criticar.
