La police ivoirienne est créée en 1887 au début de la conquête coloniale. Ses réformes vont accompagner les changements institutionnels et politiques de ce pays.De cette histoire riche et centenaire, on sait peu de chose. De plus, les connaissances sur son fonctionnement actuel sont largement dominées par une production médiatique qui trop souvent se confine dans la couverture d’évènements scandaleux (corruption, usage excessif de la force) ou de cérémonies de remise d’épaulettes. Ainsi, peu d’ouvrages sont consacrés à la mémoire et la culture organisationnelles de la police ivoirienne ainsi qu’aux réformes en cours. Ce livre comble ce manque, à travers cinq thèmes : l’histoire de l’institution, sa structure et son fonctionnement, ses rapports au politique et aux droits de l’homme ainsi que les formes que pourrait revêtir la contribution de la criminologie aux réformes policières en cours et à venir.Destiné aux spécialistes comme à ceux désirant acquérir une culture générale sur le sujet, il vise aussi le personnel de la police et autres intervenants de la chaîne pénale, autorités politiques et partenaires techniques impliqués dans les projets de réforme, ainsi que les étudiants en sciences sociales.
