La piedra sangrante cuenta la historia de Asuf, un beduino solitario que ama el desierto, respeta sus leyes y vive en armonía con sus criaturas, vivas y fósiles. Asuf conoce bien el montañoso y remoto desierto líbico. Sabe dónde encontrar muflones, gacelas y carneros salvajes, y aun así hará todo lo posible por evitar que se vean amenazados por la presencia de cazadores. En esta novela, como en la mayor parte de sus obras, Ibrahim Alkoni hace una defensa comprometida del medio ambiente y del respeto por la vida tradicional de las gentes del desierto, largamente amenazados por la voracidad colonial, depredadora e invasiva de cazadores, militares y turistas. La piedra sangrante ofrece una radiografía desnuda del alma humana y de la lucha constante entre el bien y el mal, una hermosa demostración de que la naturaleza y la condición humanas son universales. En esta novela se amalgaman con maravillosa maestría los elementos mitológicos de la cultura norteafricana y preislámica, los rasgos que definen la vida beduina y una búsqueda de lo espiritual y trascendente. Todo ello, elaborado sobre una suerte de realismo mágico sui generis, de fabulación mística y de narración profundamente lírica. La piedra sangrante ha sido descrita por The Guardian como una lograda combinación de fábula ecologista, declaración política y elegía lírica. Esta es su segunda obra en español, después de Oro en polvo, publicada por Galaxia Gutenberg en traducción de Ignacio Gutiérrez de Terán, con prólogo de Juan Goytisolo.
