Parviendra-t-elle à s’en extirper ?This is the story of a young girl, Safiatou, who leaves her hometown of San for Bamako, the capital, where she is to pursue her studies. From a poor but respectable family steeped in a rigorous upbringing, Safi is abruptly confronted with different realities, marked by the big city, whose unspoken truths and less-than-honorable undercurrents she discovers with dismay. It is Bamako 'by night' that she discovers through her rather arduous relationships with two friends as different as they are similar in certain ways: on one side, Oumou, her neighbor, who lives and supports her mother by selling her body; on the other, Djénéba, her classmate, who, between her boyfriend 'the Bearded One' and his friend Barry, both inveterate drinkers and drug dealers, leads a life rather devoid of moral constraints. Safiatou, ill-prepared to grasp the stark contrast between the simple life she knew in San and the multifaceted world she was gradually discovering, would soon find herself plagued by serious internal conflicts, exacerbated by her precarious situation. She would not emerge unscathed from these inner turmoil, which would slowly but inexorably plunge her into the parallel world of prostitution and drugs... Would she manage to escape?
