Ensayos sobre cultura cubana cuestiona, desde diferentes perspectivas, los conceptos de «cubanía» y de «excepcionalidad» cuyo cruce ha marcado, quizás mucho más allá de lo deseado, la producción literaria cubana de las últimas seis décadas, y lo hace tomando como referente el futuro no muy lejano de la literatura cubana, cuando su carácter de excepcionalidad haya dejado de ser su centro de gravitación principal.Damaris Puñales Alpízar es ensayista y profesora en Case Western Reserve University. Ha publicado Escrito en cirílico: el ideal soviético en la cultura cubana posnoventa (2012), y editado los volúmenes colectivos El Atlántico como frontera. Mediaciones culturales entre Cuba y España (2014) y –junto a Emilio J. Gallardo Saborido y Jesús Gómez de Tejada– Asedios al caimán letrado. Poder y literatura en la Revolución cubana (2018). En 2018 obtuvo una beca Fulbright de investigación para un proyecto sobre geopolíticas de la traducción socialista.
