La ribera navarra del Ebro es el escenario inicial de La luz de Alba. El protagonista, apodado Cano, escondido en un viejo almacén, presencia los prolegómenos de su propio funeral, ya que, erróneamente, todos lo consideran muerto. El propio Cano relata las procelosas circunstancias que le han llevado a esta situación. En ello emplea la primera parte de la obra, que discurre principalmente en Guinea Ecuatorial, pero el hecho más relevante de la narración es la aparición de Alba de la mano de Ricardo, amigo y socio de Cano. Este sentirá un embelesamiento por la linda joven, que será el objetivo de su vida futura. Alba demostrará que, además de belleza, posee una gran personalidad y un destacable instinto comercial. De hecho, se desenvolverá exitosamente en la jungla de Manhattan, mucho más salvaje que la de Guinea, gestionando un fondo de inversión de 25.000 millones de dólares en los difíciles momentos de la crisis económica de 2008.
