Esta historia trata de describir —lo más fielmente posible— las experiencias vividas por Paco (Francisco): su partida de Madrid, que lo separará de sus padres en julio de 1936, su llegada a Bélgica en 1939, donde es acogido como exiliado y donde residió. El protagonista tenía ochenta y siete años cuando se publicó la versión francesa de este trabajo. Posteriormente fue revisado y corregido para una segunda y nueva edición en español. ¿Podemos afirmar que en esta narración la experiencia y el mensaje que nos ofrece Paco, ochenta años después de su partida de Madrid, no tuvo consecuencias para él y de manera global para los que conocieron el mismo destino? Veremos que el mensaje expresado a lo largo de este texto es mucho más que la simple narración de su historia. Su hija le prometió ser fiel en la escritura, en la transcripción de su testimonio; el producto de muchas tertulias donde la reconstrucción de los hechos no era un asunto simple. La edad, la memoria y el tiempo hicieron el trabajo de borrar muchos detalles de aquellas vivencias. No obstante, el resultado es tal y como se lo prometió su hija y como él deseaba: humano, sin odios ni resentimientos, cargado de afectos hacia los suyos y hacia los que lo acompañaron en su largo «itinerario de un niño de la guerra».En 2026 se cumplen los 90 años del comienzo de la guerra civil española.
