Les crises sont souvent considérées comme des événements d’exception avec une faible probabilité d’occurrence et un impact élevé. Cette vision implique le plus souvent pour les organisations une gestion réactive dont l’objectif est avant tout de limiter les conséquences de l’événement et revenir le plus rapidement possible à la situation préalable. Dans ce livre une vision complémentaire est proposée en suggérant une approche processuelle. La crise ainsi conçue permet de relativiser le poids de l’événement exceptionnel comme composant décisif de sa dynamique et lui reconnaît une véritable généalogie dont on peut retracer l’évolution avant l’apparition de sa phase aiguë. En particulier l’approche processuelle permet de redéfinir la crise comme la résultante d’un double processus cumulatif : une accumulation de dysfonctionnements atteignant une phase de saturation au-delà de laquelle la rupture est inévitable et une accumulation d’ignorance sur ces dysfonctionnements favorisant leur amplification jusqu’à la rupture. Cette vision de la crise permet d’envisager une gestion plus préventive et un véritable effort d’anticipation sur l’occurrence de ces événements.
