La présente étude a pour objectif de classer typologiquement les langues atlantiques et bantoues en fonction de leur TAM. Le point de départ est une analyse contrastive du TAM en kirundi et en wolof. Une telle analyse met en évidence des ressemblances qui permettent de classer les deux langues dans un même type aspectuo-temporel. Les critères pris en compte sont l’expression temporelle et le type de marquage. En rapprochant les résultats de cette analyse contrastive avec d’autres langues atlantiques et bantoues, la comparaison révèle que, en gardant les mêmes critères, les langues atlantiques et bantoues se répartissent en trois types linguistiques : (i) la majorité des langues examinées se retrouve dans le type aspectuo-temporel ; (ii) certaines langues atlantiques (pulaar, bijogo, badiaranké) appartiennent au type (quasi-)aspectuel ; (iii) le kiswahili (langue bantoue) appartient au type (quasi-) temporel. Une telle classification des langues atlantiques et bantoues en trois types s’explique d’une certaine manière par la dynamique interne de la famille nigéro-congolaise.
