En la historia del período colonial de la historia ecuatoriana el análisis de la economía quiteña aparece vinculado a la manufactura textil, sin embargo, esta limitada a ser una característica más del desarrollo histórico.La manufactura textil desarrollada en la Audiencia, en el período de 1560-1700, marca una etapa importante de la economía quiteña, pues a través de este producto Quito se vincula con el exterior. El comercio de textiles llegó hasta lejanas regiones del sur y norte de la América española (Potosí y Cartagena). El ingreso de metálico por las ventas de textiles dinamizó las relaciones mercantiles internas convirtiéndose en la clave de la prosperidad económica de la época. Establecer la relación que hizo posible este fenómeno que marca la historia económica de los siglos XVII y XVIII es un reto importante; en ello confluyen una serie de políticas de la Corona: la organización administrativa de los territorios americanos a finales del siglo XVI, la organización de la hacienda pública en el siglo XVII, la eliminación de las encomiendas, entre otros. Éste es el objetivo del presente libro.
