Questo articolo discute gli effetti positivi della migrazione internazionale. Più specificamente, confronta i benefici della migrazione africana sullo slancio dello sviluppo di Camerun e Senegal, i Paesi di origine dei migranti oggetto di studio. Esiste uno stretto legame tra la mobilità africana e la crescita socio-economica del Paese d’origine. L’OIM analizza questo legame presentando i migranti come attori dello sviluppo dei loro Paesi di origine e di destinazione. In questo modo, la diaspora, se ben gestita, è in grado di trasferire significative risorse finanziarie e non finanziarie alla propria patria. Tuttavia, questo contributo alla costruzione della nazione è misurato in modo diverso e varia da una diaspora all’altra. La composizione sociologica delle diaspore (integrazione, livello di istruzione e formazione professionale, tassi di occupazione e disoccupazione, modalità di organizzazione all’estero, reddito mensile o annuale del migrante, ecc.
