La poésie américaine postmoderniste privilégie la polyphonie, la diversité et le pluralisme et, par conséquent, elle réconcilie un large éventail de cultures et fait de la place aux marginaux. Ce livre montre qu’un renversement des structures a lieu et que des modes d’existence inconnus reconfigurent le concept d’identité et dissolvent les différences et les hiérarchies. La présente étude a pour but de souligner la manière dont la poésie américaine postmoderniste parvient à reconceptualiser le monde et son système de valeurs, en donnant la parole aux sans-voix, aux marginaux et aux opprimés. Le moi doit reconnaître son inauthenticité, car l’hétérogénéité et la fragmentarité sont ses caractéristiques essentielles. En tant qu’espace discursif et idéologique complexe, articulant une esthétique de l’ouverture et de l’improvisation, dans le postmodernisme, la poésie pousse les configurations du moi vers le désordre et le provisoire. L’identité se construit à travers des discours alternatifs et des perspectives changeantes. Le sens et l’identité reposent sur la manière dont l’altérité nous convoque à l’existence. La présente recherche se concentre sur la manière dont l’altérité fait surgir la perturbation et le questionnement. L’identité devient une représentation linguistique provisoire.
