La indagación desde el campo histórico a partir de un recorte del trabajo realizado por George Sarton en su 'Historia de la Ciencia', como punto de partida, tiene por finalidad mostrar la evolución de la Astronomía como ciencia desde la Antigüedad hasta los primeros años de la era cristiana, con Claudio Ptolomeo y su 'Almagesto'. Se dará cuenta de la importancia de la figura de Sarton como el padre de la historia de la ciencia y su rol de formador de historiadores en ese campo de conocimiento y la necesidad de utilizar sus trabajos en la formación de futuros profesionales. Reseñar las astronomías no incluidas por este autor en el momento de la publicación de su obra maestra y referir los aportes a la ciencia árabe y la importancia que debía tener en su tiempo la publicación de los artículos científicos en una revista de divulgación de la ciencia y la creación de una bibliografía que estuviera al alcance de la gente común. Se incorporará información histórica del desarrollo astronómico en períodos muy antiguos a los que no tuvo acceso porque fueron descubiertos y datados con posterioridad a su fallecimiento. Se destacará el abanico de temas, disciplinas de investigación.
