This book is the result of decades of research and writing on the resistance and the struggle of Kurdish women in the Middle East and the diaspora. The book covers the lives and struggles of Kurdish women in the 20th century. In the first two decades of the 21st century, we have witnessed an ’eruption/surge’ of knowledge production about Kurdish women and their remarkable and inspiring struggles. The sparks of the Jina’s revolutionary movement and the significance of this fire igniting in Kurdistan can be found in the historical, theoretical, and political review presented in this book. Jina’s uprising is part of a global outcry against the oppressive system created by the capitalist-imperialist world order, and women around the world are its primary victims. Today, more than ever, 'Woman, Life, Freedom' movement raises important questions for us that require serious engagement in a new intellectual struggle concerning gender, nationality, and class; all of which this book addresses.Shahrzad Mojab is Professor in the Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto and Women and Gender Studies, University of Toronto. Professor Mojab has served as the Interim Principal of New College, and Director of Women and Gender Studies Institute. She is the past-President of the Canadian Association for the Studies of Adult Education. Her internationally recognized research explores the areas of educational policy studies, as well as race, gender, class, transnational feminism, and Marxist-feminism.
