Während in der Forschung bislang zumeist Mitgliedsstaaten im Fokus stehen, wendet sich die Autorin hier der EU-Peripherie zu und analysiert den Statuskonflikt zwischen Kosovo und Serbien. Dazu wird mit dem „Hexagon der Europäischen Konfliktregelungskultur' ein innovatives, theoriegeleitetes Analyseschema vorgestellt, das von sechs Variablen ausgeht: Kompromissorientierung, Zusammenarbeit der Konfliktparteien mit der EU sowie internationalen Akteuren, Anerkennung der Verhandlungspartner, Gewaltfreiheit und Wirtschaftsbeziehungen. Das Buch gibt einen Überblick über die Konfliktgeschichte Kosovos, beginnend am Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts, bevor die Verhandlungen um den zukünftigen Status Kosovos anhand des Hexagons untersucht werden.
