Kondali, Illinois, is one of those towns most people never escape. John Lazlo never thought he was one of those people, but the evidence is piling up as he nears his 10-year high school reunion. His intelligence is neglected on repairing factory engines, his passion is spent on a woman from his past, and his time is wasted on beer, scribbling lyrics to songs in a notebook, and meaningless nights with the same old friends. He’s a young man who feels old-and like he’ll never get any older. The tracks of Kondali Rail run in multiple directions out of town. John Lazlo tries to ease the ticking time-bomb in his head as each day becomes part of the same old routine, and he wonders-if these tracks lead out of town, why does no one ever go anywhere?Kondali Rail is a story about a man who feels trapped by his past as much as he feels trapped in his hometown. But John Lazlo learns there are other ways to escape the inescapable truth.

  • Meritocrats

Stuart Evans’s first novel is a comedy-of-ill-manners set in a nouveau riche milieu: a fantastic satirical performance and hyper-referential homage to masters past and present. Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
