Once upon a time, in a world long since lost to legend, the courageous sacrifices of two young heroines rewove the tapestry of history. It mattered not, though, that they were goddess-blessed, their names faded nevertheless - for nothing quiets heroine quite like time.

At The Conservatory, a fortress-like, battle academy hewn high into the snow-capped cliffs of the vale, spectraline hopefuls train to join the ranks of The Shield, the fabled legion of immortal protectors born and bred to defend the mortal from the peril that prowls. Nora Everstar has but one thought on her mind - winning the remaining canons, twenty-four deadly trials designed to assess a specling’s proficiency in combat. But in this academy of bloodthirsty warriors-to-be, danger lurks around every bend. And when the cruelest Commander, in all of The Shield, is sent to oversee her most harrowing canon, Nora must contend with not only impossible danger, but the lethal lust in his gemstone glare. 

Leagues below the starstone walls of the spectraline stronghold, the subterranean corridors of The Catacombs snake across the continent in every direction. This sprawling citadel, home to the beautiful and cunning sisters of Covenarykind, is where Savallin Prim, the Keeper of Wisdom, translates a missive that, if true, challenges everything she’s ever known. But truth, it does not come easily in The Catacombs - it is hard won, guarded by a scheming sovereign and her council of serpents. And to unearth it, to save her people - to save all peoples - Savallin must first survive them.

Long centuries pass, great kingdoms fall, and the valiant deeds of both Nora and Savallin disappear into nothing more than myth. But the threats - the hosts they gave their lives to vanquish - they have survived. For evil never quiets. No, it blares through the ages. And yet, amidst the gleaming sky towers of The Mortal City, the wayward heirs, of heroines long-forgotten, are listening.
