Kate Smith Speaks was the most listened-to program in daytime radio during the 1940s. The mixture of folksy vignettes, news items, and heartfelt editorials presented a slice of life on the home front. Kate Smith was one of the three most popular female personalities of the times, both as a vocalist and as a commentator.
