Jahrhundert' bei Professor Birgitta Bader-Zaar möchte ich im folgenden den autobiographischen Text „A Slave Girl´s Story' von Kate Drumgoold näher beleuchten und analysieren. Obgleich bereits im Jahre 1898 veröffentlicht, bietet uns dieser kurze Abriß über das bewegte und sicher äußerst arbeitsreiche Leben dieser Kate Drumgoold - stets in einem tiefen Vertrauen in bzw. auf Gott und dessen wundersames Wirken - noch heute ein interessantes und aufschlußreiches Abbild der Lebenssituation, der Gedanken, Wünsche und Hoffnungen der emanzipierten Sklaven im Süden der Vereinigten Staaten. Ehe ich dazu übergehen möchte, einige für mich interessante Aspekte dieses Schriftstückes näher zu betrachten, will ich in einem ersten Absatz einige biographische Daten zu Ms. Drumgoold anbringen, gefolgt von einer kurzen Inhaltsangabe des Textes.
