Amadeo Vives Roig nació en Collbató (Barcelona), el 18 de noviembre de 1871, y falleció en Madrid, el 2 de diciembre de 1932. Prolífico compositor de canciones, óperas, operetas y zarzuelas; destaca hasta nuestros días por estas últimas, contándose entre sus obras algunas tan fundamentales como Maruxa, Bohemios o Doña Francisquita, obra cumbre del género. A partir de 1900 se traslada a Madrid, ciudad que alternará con su Barcelona natal, cosechando en ambas sus mayores éxitos teatrales.Paralela a su actividad musical, desarrolla una intensa labor literaria en el ámbito periodístico, como articulista y columnista, colaborando en medios de tanta difusión como La Tribuna. Fue, además, conferenciante habitual en los más diversos foros. Tras la publicación de Sofía, en 1923, prepara una suerte de segunda parte, que es esta Julia que ahora tenemos entre manos y que, sin embargo, no vería la luz hasta 1971.En Julia encontramos menos ironía y una mayor ocupación y preocupación por los hechos contemporáneos al autor. No obstante, resulta sorprendente cómo no pocos pasajes, firmados hace más de 100 años, tienen hoy día tal vigencia, que las opiniones expresadas en ellos nos resultarán de inquietante actualidad.
