In vielen europäischen Städten können Folgen gesellschaftlicher Spaltungsprozesse in abgehängten und benachteiligten Stadtteilen beobachtet werden. Die Menschen in diesen Quartieren gehören zu den Verlierern des Strukturwandels der Arbeitsgesellschaft: Das Exklusionsrisiko von Jugendlichen ist groß und die Formen der Bewältigung anomischer Strukturen werden in der Regel gesellschaftlich nicht akzeptiert. Aus diesen Gründen wurden in zahlreichen europäischen Städten Projekte und Programme zur Verbesserung der sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Situation in sozialräumlich segregierten Stadtteilen durchgeführt. Exemplarische Programme, sozialpädagogische Projekte und deren Ergebnisse aus Frankreich, Spanien, Italien, den Niederlanden und Deutschland werden vorgestellt und diskutiert, wodurch eine aktuelle Zusammenfassung der gegenwärtigen Sozial(raum)arbeit für Jugendliche in Europa entsteht.
