This is a critical edition of the literary criticism of Jacques de la Taille, including the original French text, critical footnotes, and introductory essay. La Taillie’s purpose in La Maniere was to restore the quality of contemporary French poetry by reviving the practice of quantitative prosody, a style of metric verse popular among Greek and Roman poets.
