Jack Benny dominated radio in the 1930s and 1940s. He transitioned to television in the 1950s where he enjoyed success to his death in 1974. Johnny Carson struggled to find his comedy voice in television in the 1950s before finding the perfect fit as host of the Tonight Show from 1962 to 1992. Jack and Johnny became friends who endured the highs and lows of the entertainment business for twenty years. It was a friendship made for television.
