Jack likes to solve puzzles and mysteries but being an only child, he doesn’t mind his parents’ wealth and is spoiled rotten. When he insists on being a cop, his doctor dad makes him go into forensics, but Jack doesn’t want to study medicine, he just wants to solve crimes. So, that’s what he does and while he’s at it, he falls in love with a beautiful red haired mobster’s daughter, Hildy Witter Raygun, a woman of questionable means, both of which gets him in trouble with his dad and the latter with the Near-Earth Police Department. While Sydney Atrax, a robot cop, can close 30 cases a year, Jack is lucky if he can solve five because he’s honest and wants to be sure he’s got the right killer, not just success for the sake of appearances. But when a Green Policewoman is found dead in a Moon Mining Cave, a bullet to her heart, Jack is framed for her murder and the killers are now after Jack and they want him dead. Jack believes in solving crimes with his mind and not guns, especially in space, where one bullet could take out a whole space city. Solving crimes on the moon was hard enough but now his chase through local space to find the killers leads him to discover an alien invasion on the way to Earth and the only protection he has against both are his partner Indigo Jane, his butler robot dog, Zero-One, and his wits.
