Is today as ordinary as all your yesterdays? Does it seem as exciting as all your tomorrows? Are you in a difficult moment? Are you satisfied, or do you desire something more out of life? Do you know what it is that you seek, and how to make the best of your everyday? These questions hang over us occasionally, adding to the pressures of daily survival. How do we get beyond? I do not have the answers, but I am familiar with the means. ’It’s more than Just the Day to Day...’ reminds us of our true purpose for living. It takes us through a familiar cycle, that of joys and sorrows, successes and failures, and that of our infinite desires. It shows us that there is a lot more to life than the daily struggle. Through poetry we journey through each phase of the typical life cycle; through real and personal experiences, hopes, and dreams that may take us back to similar moments in our own lives. We are encouraged to seek our true niche, live or best lives, and break free from the limits of this world. For anyone currently in an overwhelming situation, or who is at crossroads, or who has already found that joy, ’It’s more than Just the Day to Day...’ will speak to you. Existing in the daily routine is not yet living. We come repeatedly to the familiar life phases, and we consciously or unconsciously move on. Now we must learn to move beyond; for we are made to live a life far greater, and of more valued meaning than we simply acknowledge in our everyday... '...I have come in order that you might have life - life in all its fullness.' John 10:10

‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. Figures who could so easily flit like phantoms in her well honed poetry are palpably enjoying an after-life in the poet’s ability to redeem through deep understanding. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

  • One Kiss
    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

  • The Truth about A

In his interpretation of Antigone, Seamus Heaney says, ‘Nobody can be sure they are always right.’ Maureen O’Shaughnessy’s The Truth about A further attends to this idea through various readings of the myth as portrayed by Sophocles, Brecht, Ted Hughes, Anne Carson and, most particularly, Euripides.
