It’s Gonna Rain is a story about a church playing church and it’s coming soon to a church near you if it ain’t already there! Welcome to Slippery Rock Baptist Church pastored by The Reverend James ’Too Slick’ Jones. It’s just a typical Sunday Morning Worship Service. The choir is singing, the preacher is whooping and The Spirit is moving. All is well and there’s nothing out of the ordinary on this typical Sunday, except for the visitation of three interesting gentlemen. Slippery Rock is a small church, where everybody knows everybody and everybody’s family, and they rarely have visitors, especially visitors that no one knows. As they would reveal, they are there to meet with Reverend Jones and offer him the opportunity of a lifetime. Surely he can’t say 'No' to becoming the new spiritual leader of the world! With this opportunity he will be able to serve both God and man, therefore fulfilling his life’s passion! The cons: The lust for power, money and the temptation of sex. Yes, Pastor Jones has been tempted as a minister and pastor, but his love for God and his wife has always helped him to maintain his integrity and moral standards, which is why he has been selected by the three gentlemen to become the leader of their spiritual movement! He didn’t apply for the job, nor did he have to in their eyes! He’s not in this game for what he can personally gain, but in it for the sole purpose of serving The Almighty! But having to deal with the particular issues that come his way, along with the politics that exist in the church house poses the question, is the office of The Heavenly Called, the anointed and the standards within it too much to bear even for those who have the sincerest of intentions? The doors of the church are open! Whosoever will, let him come!

Stuart Evans’s first novel is a comedy-of-ill-manners set in a nouveau riche milieu: a fantastic satirical performance and hyper-referential homage to masters past and present. Paul Keller is the Stephen Dedalus of the piece, the son of Robert and Sylvie, whose internal monologue is spliced into the action, and whose incestuous feelings for his sister lead to an increase in his...
