This book contains 366 daily reflections drawing from all 39 books of the Old Testament. The author holds fast to the belief that the Old Testament continues-when interpreted with care-to be every bit as relevant to believers today as the New Testament. Each daily entry, therefore, assumes and endeavours to reflect the authority, infallibility and inerrancy of the whole canon of Scripture. What’s more, these reflections seek to challenge readers with the counter-cultural message of the Scriptures. The Lord GOD declared to the people of Israel, 'But this is the one to whom I will look: / he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at My Word' (Is 66: 2b). These are not characteristics that the world finds appealing-and, sadly, much the same can be said of contemporary Christians. In fact, too often the Old Testament is passed over and ignored by those within the Church because they are either embarrassed by it, ignorant concerning its relevance, under the impression that Old means antiquated and immaterial in relation to the New Testament, or they simply don’t know how to deal with its sometimes raw narrative, strange laws and practices, candid worship and railing prophets; all the more reason why the Old Testament needs to be more diligently and discerningly explored and explained by preachers, teachers and writers. The Old Testament is the authoritative text drawn from by the inspired New Testament writers-and Jesus Himself-as they call humanity to repentance and salvation in Christ. We neglect it to our shame. It is Written is, therefore, one man’s attempt to reflectively point people back to what is timelessly written in the original Scriptures of the Israelites and the Christian Church.
