A Common Sense Field Guide to Leadership, Management, and Getting from Here to There In this book we leave behind the esoteric discussions of management theory and focus on the reality of successful organizational management. This book is about managing to success. Note the use of the words /to success rather than /for success. The change of this single tiny preposition is the basis of much of what you will read. In these pages you will find, in order to succeed in a deliberate and intentional way, you not only must do the right thing (often called 'managing for success'), you must also tie those actions to your Definition of Success. You must create line-of-sight from your activities to your desired outcomes. The Three Elements There are three elements required to achieve success in a deliberate fashion rather than by luck or happenstance: leadership, management, and the nuts and bolts of operations and change. Understanding and mastering these elements gives you the ability to control your present and achieve your desired future. The Book The book is divided into three major sections: Leadership, Management, and Getting from Here to There. The first section focuses on the characteristics, capabilities, and behaviors of successful leaders. The second section discusses the mechanics and imperatives of managing an organization. The third section is about the methods of visioning, planning, and executing the change and growth necessary for healthy, long-lived organizations. Although the topics are roughly divided into the three major areas, as in real life there is no bright line between these facets of a successful organization. This field guide helps you understand them and use them holistically. /It Comes Down to This is your guide to successfully leading an organization.

Today the American evangelical church is in a crisis. Evangelical Christians make up only 25% of the population and that number is dropping all the time. Movements like the 'Exvangelical' are becoming more popular in what used to be the dominant vein of Christianity. Those outside the Evangelical church see us as judgmental, hypocritical, and angry and not without good reason. ...
