This book is a collection of writing explorations - poems, journal entries, anecdotes and truth telling - by individuals and the group - using a variety of themes and topics to inspire and challenge each other as we formed Under One Roof Writers Write. Raising our voices with our written word so that our stories could be told and retold, felt and understood. Giving voice where there once was silence. Celebrating the many perspectives and experiences without judgment but with much support. This book is a compilation demonstrating the beauty and magic of what it is to be human, open and connected. This book is what can happen when given opportunity and encouragement ...Under One Roof is a community centre which provides housing, health and hope for those struggling with poverty, housing insecurity, health and mental health needs. Also included is a full scale food recovery program allowing for an on site ’pay as you can’ grocery store where all are welcome. An on site ’Open Door Clinic’ works to provide individualized health and wellness for those dealing with medical, mental health and substance use issues. Under One Roof was built in 2020 in collaboration with BC Housing and the District of Squamish and was also supported and funded by the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation as well as Target Homes (Dave Ransier and Grant Gillies). Under One Roof was built in response to the growing national housing crisis and further, to aid in the fight against the toxic drug crisis which continues to kill thousands of British Columbians year after year. The facility, Under One Roof, operated by Squamish Helping Hands Society, is located in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada.
